The saltwater lagoon connected to the sea at the northern end of Maabaidhoo is a striking place with special characteristics. Reef life breeds and thrives within the lagoon, small colourful crabs can be seen, and plants such as mangrove, kuredhi and halaveli grow around it. From the reef and seagrass area surrounding the island, six species of seagrass and 86 species of reef fish have been recorded.
