Event Date: 18 January 2023

Representatives of the Maldives Heritage Society held a sideline meeting with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and members of the Olive Ridley Project team following a consultation on the management of the protected sea turtle nesting area in L. Gaadhoo.

The discussion highlighted the importance of conserving Gaadhoo’s natural heritage, particularly its protected turtle nesting habitats, while also recognizing the island’s significant cultural and archaeological heritage. Participants noted that Gaadhoo is home not only to important environmental assets but also to historical sites, including ancient burial mounds that form part of the Maldives’ tangible cultural heritage.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on the importance of safeguarding both the natural and cultural heritage values of Gaadhoo through collaborative conservation efforts.
