Construction Work Begins on Heritage Trail

Construction work has officially commenced on the Heritage Trail being developed between the Haiytheli heritage site and the Pareefengandu natural heritage area in Laamu Gan.
The Heritage Trail is designed to connect Gan’s cultural and natural heritage sites, creating a unique route that allows visitors and residents to experience the island’s rich history, environment, and traditions in a single journey. The project is expected to enhance public access to these important sites while supporting heritage conservation, environmental awareness, and sustainable tourism development.
A key principle of the project is the protection of the natural environment. The trail alignment has been carefully planned to avoid damage to existing vegetation, and no trees will be cut down during the implementation of the project. The initiative aims to work in harmony with the surrounding landscape while preserving the ecological value of the area.
The project is being implemented by the Maldives Heritage Society in collaboration with Outreef Sports Club, with support from local stakeholders and partners. Once completed, the Heritage Trail will serve as an important community asset, strengthening the connection between Gan’s cultural heritage and its unique natural environment while promoting responsible heritage and eco-tourism.
